Frequently Asked Questions

Why are Bio-King products different?

Greener products have this connotation that they are ineffective, mainly due to many commercial greener products being formulated at the lowest levels of active ingredient to meet the "green" mark of approval.

Our probiotic microbial products do not poison pathogens with chemical components, but they use competitive exclusion to inhibit them.  The specific selected probiotic strains in our products rapidly colonise surfaces with good bacteria and produce specific enzymes that will continuously clean and protect the surface it is applied on.  Our products are designed using innovative and dedicated research and development of microbes, their enzyme profiles and modern chemistry.

What are probiotics?

Through science, we have learnt that not all bacteria are bad but rather crucial for the survival of all living organisms on the planet.  Probiotics are good bacteria and there are many different species and strains.  We know now that probiotic bacteria benefit our human health by fighting dangerous pathogens.  It is proven that most of our immune system is determined by our microbiome in our gut and this is all controlled by the balance of good versus bad bacteria present.  Probiotics in cleaning work the same way.  Bacillus probiotics are found in the soil and gut of humans and animals.  Each strain of bacillus probiotic has a unique advantage or benefit due to its specific function.

What is biofilm?

Biofilm is a microscopic matrix that provides protection for dangerous pathogens such as MRSA, viruses, fungi and other pathogens.  Although it is invisible it can be present on almost all surfaces.  You can imagine this as the safe house for all microbes and within them, pathogens are much more difficult to kill.  This creates the perfect environment for pathogens to flourish and multiply as they share nutrients and genetic material with each other.

Biofilm is the one reason why harsh chemicals or the strongest disinfectants cannot completely remove all pathogens from a surface.  According to the NHI and CDC, 90% of harmful pathogens are present in biofilm.  We need not only to remove them but all prevent hem from forming again.

What is ATP?

ATP is the energy currency that is stored in virtually all cells, including bacteria.  Different organisms will have different levels of ATP present, but levels of cleanliness can still be determined.  The lower the ATP level, the cleaner the surface and less likelihood of a biofilm being present.  How do we measure ATP?  We use a Hygiena Liminometer for measuring ATP.  There are a number of other manufacturers of Luminometers, but they cannot be directly compared as they operate on different scales.  This method is endorsed by the USDA and ISSA.

What is Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) known as superbugs?

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria have been exposed to an antibiotic but survived.  The bacteria change their genetic material to withstand the antibiotic.  The risk to us is that they share this new genetic material with other bacteria so that they can also withstand treatment.  Therefore, overuse of antibiotics and cleaning with harsh chemicals are contributing to superbugs, and ultimately facilitating AMR.

What do we offer in terms of sustainability?

Our commitment to our customers is environmentally responsible products, not only in the finished product form but throughout the supply chain.  It has been designed with an emphasis on improved product performance as well as ecological safety and stability.  Our products are safe for users and the environment.  We harness the power of mother nature to clean and we put back into nature what has come from nature.
